Slapshot turned over as Superintendent to VADM Sean Buck, USNA ‘83. Slapshot gave an exceptional farewell speech, pictured here, with no notes. You can hear the speech at this link. On behalf of the National Capital Council of the Navy League (NCCNL) of the United States, Doug Denneny accepted an outstanding council award from the NLUS at their annual convention on Friday June 21st. Doug is the volunteer president of the NCCNL and accepted the award on behalf of the 60 volunteer members of his board who worked tirelessly in 2018 to support members of the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine and their families who live and work in the National Capital Region. The NCCNL was one of 12 councils who received the top award, out of 256 councils around the world.

US Naval Sea Cadet Corps @usnscc receives much needed $4.3M in additional funding in the FY20 House Appropriations Bill thanks to Representative @SethMoulton, @RepJoeWilson and @RepChuck Fleischmann
Sea Cadets with CNO Richardson and US Naval Sea Cadet Corps Senior Leaders at the US Capitol, May 2019. The Sea Cadets are the only Congressionaly-chartered military youth program and rely on US Navy funding and the support of Representatives and Senators.
Thanks to the bi-partisan support from Representatives Seth Moulton, Joe Wilson (Co-Chairs of the Military Youth Programs Caucus) and co-sponsor Rep. Chuck Fleischmann, the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps received an additional $4.3M in FYF20 funding through a House floor amendment. The amendment was accepted and passed. CoAspire was pleased to take an active effort to achieve this much needed funding for the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, and thankful for the 9,000 Sea Cadets and their adult volunteers in 46 states, Guam, DC and Puerto Rico who are also advocating for this funding. On to the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Full Senate, conference with the House and presidential signature.
